The Mercedes-Benz Unimog was manufactured for decades in Gaggenau, Murgtal, before its production was switched to Wörth in Rehinland-Pfalz. Yet the association felt by the inhabitants of the region of Baden with the Unimog is so strong that in 2006 a private initiative took the step of establishing the Unimog Museum. Tracing the history of the vehicle, along with world history from 1945, the exhibition is a declaration of love for all things Unimog, or "Universal Motorized Working Machine" to give it its full name. Vehicles from different decades show the Unimog’s wide range of application, in some cases with the addition of various attachments and mounted implements. Each year a specific area of application - for example firefighting, agricultural or winter service operations- is highlighted in a special exhibition.
Historic as well as modern exhibits, films and documents provide a very special insight into the world of the Unimog: anyone who owns one belongs to a unique family of enthusiasts devoted to this vehicle bearing the Mercedes star. On a guided tour, visitors can listen to some incredible stories, learn about the latest developments, and experience an exciting ride around the challenging outdoor obstacle course as a passenger in a Unimog - or even enjoy a driver training session for themselves. Pure Unimog action for all the family to enjoy, join in and be amazed by. Plus there is a bistro with outside terrace, exhibition halls, tourist information on the Murg Valley as well as a Museum shop.
